I’m going to shave my head this year to help raise funds for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fight cancer, inspired by one of my closest friends, Susan Bayh, and someone I barely knew, Tyler Trent. You’re likely familiar with their respective fights against this awful disease.
Susan was diagnosed last spring with glioblastoma, a horrific brain cancer; the same disease that took my very close friend Bob Clifford for whom I shaved three years ago. Things are going much better for Susan thanks to recent treatment advances that are the direct result of the kind of cutting-edge research made possible by this sort of fundraising. She continues her courageous fight.
Sadly, Tyler’s earthly fight ended this year on New Year’s Day. Like millions of others around the world, I was inspired by his courage, faith, wisdom, and love. As a parent, I was also inspired by Tyler’s parents – especially his mother Kelly with whom we worked when Tyler visited IU. Their strength in not only supporting Tyler, but sharing him with the rest of the world, during this incredibly difficult time will be a life-long inspiration to me.
After shaving for Bob in 2016 and Michael Schroeder and Joey Chamness in 2011, I didn’t think I would again. But Susan and Tyler remind me that the fight against this disease can never stop.
Please help St. Baldrick’s turn scientific discoveries into cures for children with cancer. You can give directly with your credit card here or by phone (888-899-BALD) or you can send a check payable to “St. Baldrick’s Foundation” to me at 2604 E. Second Street Unit D; Bloomington, IN 47401. I’ll be shaving at the St. Baldrick’s event at the Indianapolis Northside Knights of Columbus beginning at 6:00 p.m. on March 22nd with a buffet dinner and cocktails. You are most welcome to attend this fun and uplifting party.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
