Dear friends and family,
Every shavee has someone who inspired them to raise money to cure childhood cancers. For me, it's my friend and cousin, Madelyn.
Madelyn was only 3 when she was diagnosed with ALL, a type of leukemia. She underwent treatment for two and a half years— going to the hospital every week to get chemo. Throughout those years, despite the hospitalisations and chemotherapy, she continued to stay as strong as ever.
Madelyn had long hair. At three, her hair reached halfway down her back. But when she started chemo, her hair began to fall out. On Easter morning of 2008, she woke up bald... but Madelyn was resilient. She knew she was different, and she embraced it. Madelyn's mother bought her hats and bandanas to stay warm. Yet, anywhere she went, she would take them right off. Her only request was to have her mother sprinkle glitter on her head, so that it would be sparkly. She would go to preschool with a glittery bald head, and would do so proudly.
She finished chemo in January, 2010.
Not everybody, however, wins the fight against cancer. Many children are lost daily to childhood cancer. I'm here to help the extremely underfunded research to find a cure, knowing that one day, we will win the fight. Please join me in the fight by donating! Donations can be received through credit card, checks, cash, or phone calls (888) 899-2253, however donating online through credit card is the easiest way.
