I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Harmony. She liked guacamole, and the smiley poop emoji, and reading and drawing and dog-walking and a whole bunch of other stuff I don't know about, because I never met her.

I met her dad, author Paul Mosier, on the internet (I write books, too — Paul and I have the same agent, which makes us literary siblings or something) and then in person when her family came to Michigan from Arizona for a last-ditch effort at experimental treatment on the tumor that had taken over the roof of her mouth.

The treatment didn't work. Harmony's not here anymore, because rhabdomyosarcoma is merciless and awful, and that's why I'm doing this.

Double my goal, and I'll ask my favorite barber to shave Harmony's name onto my head. (After my hair grows back a little, that is.)

Double it again, and just maybe I'll think about having a smiley poop emoji shaved onto my head instead!
