You know gang, it has been 4 years of nurturing Avery with his helping St Baldricks. That's 4 years with his fellow cub scouts, but now they crossed the Bridge.
Of those years I have been on stage now 2 times too, getting my head shaved as well, supporting him when he wasn't feeling as brave as the kids struggling with their illnesses, o,r supporting him because he could not carry himself on the stage.
Why else? Because as his dad, I want him to understand I will do whatever I can to support him. It is important to show him what I hope he too will do one day for his children.
Most of all I want him to understand that it isn't just me supporting him, supporting these children going thru what I hope is the winning of the biggest battle they ever have to go thru, but that is generations of his family being there with him.
He never knew my dad, Arthur, or his other Grandpa, because they were also lost to cancer. But both of these wonderful men did everything in their power to do what they could, that their spirits are there too, supporting us do focus support towards others, who need all of us to help them beat this terrible disease.
But he has outgrown the cub scouts and the local Boy scout troops do not participate in this event as the cubs did. So, I'm proudly sitting along-side my son again, having my head shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research!
Not only that, I started a new team for he & his fellow scouts who also no longer have the team they were a part of these last 4 years. The more of us, the better!
Of most importance is I want you to understand that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers.
And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded.
So I too am doing something about it by raising money for cures.
The more we learn about childhood cancers, the better our understanding of adult cancers too! Just maybe what is learned can help all ages defeat this disease.
Now I need your help!
