This year will be my 7th year braving the shave in order to raise not only awareness, but also raise money for childhood cancer research. The 7th year is especially significant with St. Baldrick’s because this is the year I will become a Knight of the Bald Table. I remember the first year I shaved my head and I set a goal that night that I would eventually be knighted. Over the past six years, I have raised over $16,000. For my 7th year, I have set a BIG goal and hope to raise $7,000.
When people ask me why I’ve shaved my head for six consecutive years, I tell them that if I’m healthy, there’s no reason that I shouldn’t be helping kids like me get better. I hear about kids younger than me battling cancer and I realize just how good I have it; the least I could do to help is cut all my hair once a year. The little warriors on the front lines of sickness keep fighting, no matter how long the enemy stays, or how many times it keeps coming back, these kids keep persisting through the fight.
St. Baldricks is important to me because while many other organizations raise money for cancer and cancer research, very little of that money is being spent on childhood cancer research. However, St. Baldricks is donating solely to childhood cancer research. They have done some incredible things during the 6 years that I’ve been involved but until cancer is eradicated, there is still more work to do.
This is where YOU get involved! Just because you can’t shave your head doesn’t mean that you can’t do anything to help. You can partner with me by making a donation and, in turn, making a difference in a child’s life.
Because I have set such a big goal, I am encouraging every donor who has donated to me before to set new records with their donation! I am also encouraging anyone who hasn’t donated to consider becoming a new donor and no donation is too small. I would love to have as many people as possible represented in the name of childhood cancer research.
