I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Why am I shaving my head with St. Baldrick’s? Because your donation “on my head” will actually save lives.

I have been volunteering for our St. Baldrick’s event at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital for 8 years.  Every year I encourage others to shave their heads and for the past three years I have been honored to join them and shave my head to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research.

In almost 20 years of working with kids with cancer and their families I have met too many children who have battled cancer and lost their fight, too many parents who have lost a child and too many brothers and sisters who have lost a sibling.

Last year, two patients with cancer shaved my head.  It was awesome and so much more meaningful than having my head shaved by a stylist. Unfortunately one of  those patients lost her battle this summer and the other is continuing to fight for her life. I’m shaving my head again this year for both of them and for all the other amazing kids that I have worked with whose lives have been cut short by this terrible disease.

Kids with cancer need our support now more than ever. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures.

Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Research can change that, and I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you so much!
