I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Lindsay

In Aug 2008, my daughter (3yrs old at the time) was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive form of leukemia (AML). We lived at Brenner Children’s Hospital for 6 straight months for equally aggressive treatment. She beat her cancer and is doing great today. My family received an overwhelming amount of support from family and friends and from people we didn’t even know. Ever since then, we’ve been heavily involved in fundraising, trying to pay it forward, so to speak. I raise money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation. They give grants to researchers trying to find and develop better medicines to fight childhood cancers. I’m participating in their Winston-Salem shavathon this fall. Basically, all the participants get their heads shaved in solidarity with kids with cancer. Last year I was the top fundraiser for the event, raising $6200 in just 1 month. I’m doing it again this fall, but am starting a lot earlier. If I hit the $5000 mark, my hair will be dyed any color the top donor demands. Last year it was blue (my daughter vetoed pink, Sorry Brian) There are a lot of charities that deserve donations, but this is the one that is important to me. Better medicine means better prognosis for a lot of kids.
