Five years ago I made the decision to shave my head to fund-raise for childhood cancer research, to show solidarity and help break the societal taboo that it's not okay for women to be bald, and to donate my hair to create wigs for adults and children who feel uncomfortable having involuntarily lost their own. This year i've chosen to do it again, now that my hair is long enough to donate.

I want to drive home that losing hair, removing hair.. it doesn't change the person you are. It doesn't make you weird, it doesn't make you any different, or any less beautiful. I'm showing solidarity because i've had family who've lost their hair due to cancer, and I know especially for children such a drastic change can be scary and troubled if people look upon it with judgemental eyes. Let's all realize that hair is not an extension of self. It is something that can show character but it's nothing more than what it is.

Five years ago I'd set a fundraising goal of $135; this year i'm setting the bar higher at $200. Seems like a fair deal for a buzz cut, when all the money is going toward a good cause! You can donate by card, cash or check if you know me personally. Anything is fair game: couch coins, five hundred pennies, foregoing your venti latte for the day to instead potentially help save a child. We can blast past the goal or simply meet it, but i'd appreciate any form of participation, whether it be donation, spreading the word about the cause, or even signing up as a volunteer or shavee, accompanying me and getting a close shave right along side! Ladies and gentlemen welcome! It doesn't take much to get involved, and for those who know me personally, stuff like this makes me incredibly happy. Help out in any way, with any gesture(even a pat on the back or a social media share) and it'll make a difference, I promise you.

If any of you whom I know have or know of a child who had gone through an experience such as cancer, I'd be happy to add them to my page in honour.

Thank you all for becoming involved and raising awareness. Be prepared to see Kat sheared in the name of charity! :)

I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.

Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
