On March 6, 2010, I'll be shaving my head in support of kids with cancer and to help raise money for pediatric cancer research. The St. Baldrick's Foundation has been raising money in support of this cause for many years. This year will be the third year for the team from Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas.
Why, you ask? Aside from the obvious importance, there are many other reasons.
For starters I'm so angry about cancer and how many lives it has touched with it's grimey mitts that I can't stand it any longer! I've realized that I can actually make a list of people I know directly who have or had cancer. A freakin' list with double digits!!!! And, almost everyone I know can do the same. How can this be possible? I'm sick and tired of feeling helpless or useless. I usually make soup when I don't know how else to be helpful. But there ain't a soup pot big enough....
I have also been profoundly inspired by the courage that I have seen people manifest. Not only the courage of the patients and the people around them. But also the courage and fierce dedication of the team from Cirque a.k.a Cirque du SoBald. Last year the team raised just under $30,000. This year the goal is $50,000. St. Baldrick's has agreed to match our donation when we meet our goal. That's $100,000 to kick cancer's ass!!
And that makes me hopeful. So, as they say in Vegas....I'm all in!!
