Hello! I am Holly and I am so excited to be "shaving for the brave!" I have two sons, Austin, who is 3, and Evan, who is 2, and a wonderful husband, Dan. I joined the 46 Mommas team in honor of Austin. On January 20th, 2010, Austin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Up until that day, I did not realize all that pediatric cancer entailed. I have been a pediatric or neonatal nurse for seven years, and I still was not aware of how much a cancer diagnosis takes away from a child and a family. Many people believe that childhood cancer is rare, and I joined 46 Mommas to put an end to that myth.
I believe that a group of women choosing to shave their heads can make a very powerful statement and will raise much needed awareness about childhood cancer. I now know how underfunded childhood cancer research is, and it has become my mission to help raise funding and awareness. Until no child has to lose years of their childhood to cancer treatments, until no child has to live in pain, and until no parent has to bury their child, I will fight.
I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
