To all my Friends:
This will be my fifth year taking part to raise money to conquer childhood cancers with St. Baldricks in Romeo, MI. It all started when my good friend Benny told me that his 10 yr. old son Pietro was diagnosed with a brain tumor. As a father of a 10 yr. old myself I could only imagine what he was going through, but what I could imagine was terrifying.
Pietro’s courage and amazingly confident attitude throughout this ordeal gave me a tremendous amount of respect for him. Over the last few years, I have watched him become a source of inspiration and hope for so many other families who needed it more than ever.
Two years ago I saw a 14 yr. old girl have her beautiful long hair cut off in honor of her little brother who had recently lost his battle with cancer. Her contribution will leave a permanent mark on me, and I know that this year will be no different.
Last year something came up at the last minute I could not avoid, and I missed the actual event! I knew I still had to shave, as so many of my friends had contributed to this worthy cause. When I got home I had my girls attempt to shave me with a pet shaver, and boy was that a mistake! It took us a few hours with various implements of torture, but finally I was bald and a bit bloodied.
This year I look forward to the professionals doing it in Romeo and I invite all of you to come out to the event on March 12 at the Romeo Lions Fieldhouse. It is a ton of fun and great to see so much support for such a great cause.
My school Cranbrook is getting involved and has included St. Baldricks in their annual “Envisions a Cure” fundraiser, so I am honored and excited to be a part of that this coming fall!
I invite you to help support families that are in need of the research and progress that the money we raise will go to.
Thank you so much to those who have helped in the past, and I encourage all of you to participate in any way that you can.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Robb Aikens
