I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Mile High Gives

****UPDATE - ALL GIFTS THROUGH MONDAY WILL RECEIVE A MATCHING GIFT THROUGH MONDAY, MATCHED DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR - UPDATE*** Last year about this time I learned about an organization called St. Baldrick's. The St.Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. As a former bald head and buzz-cut connoisseur, I thought this will be easy; so then what could I do to stand out and get a dialog started? I decided to not cut my hair again until St.Patrick's day 2014. I had thought it would simply be, to do nothing, oops. I have a new respect for beautiful long hair, I now can relate somewhat to the investment and care it takes to get a full head of hair, especially if it is part of a persons' identity.
As the dialog started I now know why this crossed my path, and God is good. Almost everyone I talked to had guessed that I was doing it for www.locksoflove.org, so it has been a great increase in awareness for them. Others shared their story with me as a Cancer survivor or care-partner; it has been a great awareness for me too, having never realized how many lives this touches. I feel blessed to have avoided any first person contact with these difficult diagnoses.
My goal is to raise $10,000. I'll be shaving my head to honor and stand beside those who experience this change through the choice of treatments to stay alive. I'm asking everyone who can, to donate just $20.00. Can you help?
Go to http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/hagen and make your pledge.
