A bit more about my story follows the fun facts bellow.
Also, DON'T MISS the "Photo Gallery" page for nearly a decade of St. Baldrick's memories!
Fun Facts about my years shaving:
2 – Number of countries I’ve shaved in (Ireland, United States)
7 – Number of green Mohawks
9 – Number of years I’ve shaved (this will be the 10th!)
30,150 – Approximate dollars raised in my name
1.03 million – Approximate number of my hairs shorn over the nine years
I heard about St. Baldrick’s in 2003 from my brother who works for the Children’s Oncology Group, an early benefactor of St. Baldrick’s. He let me know that KRM was organizing an event in the Sacramento area and I jumped on board. The salon that my wife worked at also volunteered to shave for the event so it was a perfect fit. I’m not sure why, but shaving my head was addicting especially knowing that I was raising money for a great cause. Each year since, I’ve been touched by the stories of the children and their families. Those stories became immensely more personal when our friends lost their 4 year old son, Hunter Nelson, to cancer in 2005.
In 2004 I started the Green Mohawks to draw more attention to the cause in an attempt to raise even more money. One of the best parts about St. Baldrick’s is I know that money is put to good use, allowing my brother to continue to design clinical trials for children with cancer and to continue to provide hope in fighting the disease.
My 'before picture' was taken at last year's event with Slamson of the Sacramento Kings. See more pictures on the "Photo Gallery" tab.
