As many of you know, I was asked back in fall semester of 2015 to be the homebound teacher for Ezra, shortly after he was diagnosed with leukemia. Little did I know then that saying yes would completely transform my life.
I began visiting weekly on Sundays, sharing Dazbog Mocha Chiller and White Russian Chai drinks with Ezra and talking through assignments with him. We played Pokemon Go on the grounds of the hospital and updated each other on the latest Walking Dead episodes. Eventually, he became too sick to keep up with his work, but I kept visiting even so, and we developed a friendship that I cherish to this day.
His family has become my family, and watching him grow into the amazing young man he is today has been one of my life's most supreme joys. He is cancer free and turns 15 in May, and this is such a celebration for me and all who know him after he survived so much hardship. In honor of Ezra and his family, I am shaving my head to help raise money for this cause because it could not be more dear to my heart. Please donate and share my story for all of the kids like Ezra who are still battling.
