Why am I going bald? For over 25 years, I have unfortunately had to tell children that they needed chemotherapy or radiation to their brain (I am a brain tumour specialist). I also had to tell them that, as a consequence of the latter, they would likely loose their hair. Of the many side effects experienced during treatment, hair loss seems to be the most challenging for many children. I have seen tears, sometimes anger, and always, fear. I have done my best to comfort them, time and time again, assuring them that no one would judge them for being bald. However, I myself had never really experienced what being bald really meant. Therefore, when Jadyn (one of my patients, you must see her site at https://www.facebook.com/Jadynsdreamteam) offered to give me this very special "St Baldrick Hair Cut", I simply couldn't say no. This is a great honour and I do not know who will be the most proud on March 20th; impromptu haircutter Jadyn... or her newly bald oncologist. Please support the two of us on this momentous occasion! Your support will fund a noble cause, helping us create a long overdue world where "no child should die from cancer".
