I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Striving for More

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Striving for More

We lost our 9 year old daughter to cancer in June 2008. I can choose to support many cancer research non profit organizations. However, I choose St. Baldrick's because:

  1. I remember the day Colleen started losing her hair. Up until that point, at least for me, it didn't seem real. We could almost pretend that it was a really bad nightmare that we were going to wake up from. However, then one day, while trying on hats, her hair started falling out in big clumps. Then she reached up and started effortlessly pulling large clumps out without any pain. It was horrible. Dear Lord, this was real. I am not going to wake up from this nightmare, my child has cancer.
  2. Colleen was personally treated by a doctor who was funded by a St. Baldrick's grant.

Colleen died about 8 months later. I live my life with a purpose. I founded Striving for More (http://www.striving4more.org) to ensure that children with cancer and their families receive emotional support. But ultimately, we need to find a cure. Because if we could find a cure, I would not have to be worried about the emotional toll that cancer is taking on the children and their families.

Please consider supporting me as I shave my head again. For the third year. This time, just one week after starting a brand new job where people don't know anything about me or what I have been through. Thank you!
