I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Bald By Design - American Institute of Architects Las Vegas

In the summer of 2006, the most devastating thing happened to me that could ever happen to any child. I was diagnosed with cancer. I was diagnosed with ALL, which is cancer of the blood. At that time I was 10 years old. I was getting poked with needles every day, and once every couple of weeks getting put to sleep to have a six-inch long needle poked in my back to inject chemo. This is a lot for a 10-year-old to go through. For a long time I was getting 4 shots a week, so now I’m not bothered by needles and think it doesn’t hurt to get a shot. Believe it or not, that was not the worst part. It’s terrible for a girl to have all of her hair fall out right in front of her in a matter of days, but feeling nauseous every day, was the worst. Another thing was that the chemo makes your immune system very weak, so when your immune system, ANC, is at it’s lowest you have to wear the most uncomfortable mask in the world when you are around people. For my treatment I went to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Once I had to stay in Memphis for three months. I live in Henderson, Nevada, which is right next to Las Vegas, so I had to be away from my family and friends for long periods of time. On March 20th, 2009 I finished my treatment, so now I’m a cancer free 15-year-old girl trying to live a normal life, knowing more than some adults and kids my age. I went through one of the worst things someone my age will have to ever go through, and I survived. I think my experience makes me mentally stronger than most people. It makes me Fearless.
