I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Why did I decide to shave my head and to get involved in the fight against cancer? Well, it's a long story. I am a French international student here at UWEC and in my country cancer is not as advertised. To me, cancer was a taboo subject- a disease that only older people would have. I was not affected by the disease and therefore not really aware of all its dimensions- its struggles, its fights, its HOPES. When I first arrived in America two years ago, I realized that cancer, here, touched everyone I met. I became conscious of the fact that people in my generation and younger were also victims. I got to know friends and students who had gone through or were going through treatments and it made me want to feel useful. I wanted to have some sort of impact. I wanted to embrace all the aspects of my acculturation and this is a part in that. I might not be American, but support goes beyond borders. So, you want to know why I'm shaving my head? Because I want to support the fighters, celebrate with the survivors and honor the memory of those who left in dignity.
