BALD IS BEAUTIFUL. One week from today, I will be shaving my head at the St. Baldrick’s event, Brave the Shave, in honor and support of the strong women in my life who have faced or who are currently facing cancer and in solidarity with the children here and around the world who have to face this horrible disease. It’s a shame that we live in a society that places such high value in the hair on our heads—particularly the hair on women’s and girl’s heads. Why is it that a woman’s bald head is met with infinitely more scrutiny and judgement than that of a man? As women, our strength, worth and femininity cannot be defined by the length, color, or style of our hair, but only by our unique and beautiful minds, values and actions. No little girl or woman facing cancer should have to feel any less beautiful on account of society’s unrealistic and misguided expectations of her. I truly believe that through initiatives such as Brave the Shave, we can make a significant impact on the lives of women and girls facing cancer across the country and the world. I ask you to join me in recognizing and appreciating the true, inner beauty of the women and girls in your life.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
