I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

January 9th, 2013 I received the most devastating news any parent could ever receive. “Your child has cancer”. How can an 8.5 month old, seemingly healthy baby, be diagnosed with cancer. What followed was 12 rounds of chemo, 9 hospital stays, 5 blood transfusions, over 100 shots, countless blood draws, scans, vomiting, hair loss. Even though she is now stable, I have serious questions and concerns about the lack of options we had for treatment. Most of her treatment options were developed in the 70s, for adults no less. Very few new drugs have been designed specifically for children over the last 30 years. Less then 4% of federal cancer funding goes towards children. Pharmaceutical companies contribute very little to develop treatment options for children, because cancer in children is "RARE". Yet, 1 in 300 children will be diagnosed with cancer, 1 in 5 will die. 7 children will die each day from cancer in the U.S.. Our children are our future, and they deserve better. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
