Hello, my name is Bailey Lewis. If you live in the Austin area, there is a chance you may have heard my name before. For context, I am a 16 year old boy who was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 6. For my entire life I can't remember a time were I could not see clearly out of both of my eyes, and I have been living like this for almost 10 years! It's not all bad though, the doctors said that I will not die prematurely and I will have a rather normal life. (I know I am luckier than most.) I play the piano, have exceptionally high grades and have plenty of friends, but the main thing that I want to talk about though is this year's fundraising campaign for St. Baldricks.
The time has come for my 7th head shave on March 9th. The drill is I dye my hair green raise as much money as possible, and shave my head downtown on the UT Campus. However, this year is going to be different.
You see, because of my cancer I am able to participate in a summer camp called Camp Discovery, were I stay at an awesome camp site and do fun things like climb rock walls, dangle from ziplines and more.
Along the way, I've made so many friends, but one in particular's name is Luke Baca. Luke was a cancer patient and has a whole team of his family and friends that participate in St. Baldrick's head shave event as well. However, last year, Luke lost his battle with Neuroblastoma. Heartbroken, I decided that in honor of his memory, I would join his team of head shavers in San Antonio. It just felt like the right decision.
So come with me, as we attempt to raise $3,206 to improve treatment for childhood cancer. It doesn't matter if you can spare 50 dollars or only 5, all donations help, and together, I know we will be able to achieve the day that kids can be cancer free, and live their lives as much as they can.
