Hello Family and Friends!
As most of you know I am a nurse at Dell Children's Hospital. I work on a pre and post surgical floor where we take care of a variety of different illnesses. Most of the patients I have will be going home and back to their normal day to day lives within the month. We also take care of kids that have had biopsies of masses...some benign and some malignant. The families wait patiently as their child recovers from surgery and they wait in anticipation for the pathology report. We all hope that it is not cancer. For many of the families this is not the case. In just a few days their world is turned upside down. I am always impressed by the families I see that go through such a difficult time. You can tell that the parents hearts are breaking into a million pieces, but they all keep it together for their child and stand by their side as their little one starts the battle with cancer.
The most rewarding thing for me as a nurse is to see people grow and love even through this most difficult time. Lately I have been running into several families I have helped take care of when they where first diagnosed with cancer around the hospital. Most of them have big smiles on their face when telling me how hard this experience has been, but that their child is doing well and they couldn't me more grateful. You know that they have an understanding of hope and gratitude that only comes from the unbearably difficult situation they are facing. Thanks to strong families, hope, prayer, research and medicine...today many of these kids are beating cancer!!!
The St. Baldricks Foundation funds more childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. These kids and their families have inspired me to hopefully contribute to the research by shaving my head on March 23rd at 10:00 at Dell Children’s hospital. I ask if you are able to donate to the fight against childhood cancers please do by donating to St. Baldricks. Much love and peace! Thank you all!
