Family, friends, and everyone in-between,
I’m raising money for childhood cancer research through St. Baldricks!
After my father was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in 1996, I learned all too quickly what a diagnosis of “cancer” meant. For us, it meant weekly trips to get chemotherapy at a local hospital and many trips back and forth to the doctor(s). On one of these hospital trips, I made friends with a girl who was about my age (7 at the time) who was getting a chemo treatment, just like my dad. It blew my mind that a girl who was in elementary school could be going through something like that. She might have had cancer, and had no hair at the time, but I swear to you she was the happiest of faces I had seen in a long time. This is where my passion for Pediatric cancers was seeded.
Though I never saw that girl again, that meeting made an impression on my life. Years later, I have found myself constantly being involved with the Pediatric cancer populations, whether it be by volunteering at a Peds Hem/Onc summer camp, during undergrad at UK, or here locally at Kosairs hospital. So of course to raise money through this wonderful program was a no-brainer.
So now here comes the tricky part: I NEED MONEY!!!! Childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded, and every dollar that you could contribute would go a long way to bringing these children back to a normal childhood.
Our team goal is to raise $15,000. My personal goal is $1000! And here’s something special: If you help me reach my goal, I will cut off 8-inches of my own hair to donate and help make wigs for children who are going through chemo. (FYI my hair hasn’t been that short since I’ve been growing it….) And if that's not motivation enough, do it for the children who would greatly benefit!
:)
Thank you in advance for any contribution! It will be put to good use!
