I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I will tell you a story about a wonderful 12 year old girl named Noleina. She's the daughter of my best friend in Canada. She's such a great kid, full of life, bubbly, smart and very very sweet girl. Her dad and I have been good friends since we were kids in the Philippines, we grew up together in the same neighborhood before we migrated to Canada. Last September 19, 2009… Noleina started to get sick. We didnt know what happened until she was diagnosed with some kind of cancer called HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) which is a very rare disease... The prevalence of HLH is 1 in every 200,000 children under the age of 15. And after some sample test from her bone marrow (they had to drill a hole from her pelvic bones and get some sample from the bone marrow), she was unfortunate to be 1 of those 200,000 kids with this kind of rare disease..... It was attacking all her immune system... her heart rate was unstable, her lungs were collapsing, her liver and her kidney were malfunctioning and her white cell was eating out the red cell in her body... it was very heartbreaking everytime I visited her in the Intensive Care Unit. Before I left for Bermuda, I visited her again in the hospital, .. and as I approached her and held her hands,... I whispered to her ears as I was saying my goodbye to her, she would try to open her eyes but she can't move her body at all. All I saw were tears coming out from her eyes. It was really heartbreaking. I thought that would be the last time Im gonna see her alive. Three weeks ago, I went to visit her again in Canada… with god's help, she was slowly recovering from that disease… but she still undergoing chemotherapy for 1 year. God only knows if she will survive. But we are all very optimistic that she will recover very soon. At this point, the only thing I can do is to always include her in my prayers... and be a part of this group in supporting the cancer research foundation to conquer kid's cancer. Let's all help these kids to survive as they all deserve to live longer.
