Why am I shaving my head with St. Baldrick’s? Because your donation “on my head” will actually save lives.
For the past 15 years, I've had the honor of working with kids with cancer as the Pediatric Oncology Social Worker at the Children's Hospital of Michigan.
In our cancer center alone, between 90-100 kids are diagnosed per year!
I did the math. I've been a part of helping about 980 kids come to terms with the fact that their hair will fall out. I've had the honor of helping kids/teens/young adults to understand that their cancer and the side effects of treatment are such a small piece of who they are, that their hair status does not define them. ever.
With those kids as my inspiration, I will shave my head and show with my actions, not only words, that hair does not define the person.
Kids with cancer need our support now more than ever. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures.
Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Research can change that, and I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you so much!
