Why am I shaving my head with St. Baldrick’s? Because your donation “on my head” will actually save lives……
I am raising funds for this amazing cause because although my family has not dealt with childhood cancer we have battled cancer before and are still fighting cancer today. I cannot imagine what this fight is like for children fighting cancer and I am shaving my head for them!
About 7% of all childhood cancers are non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs). About 800 children and teens are diagnosed with NHL in the United States each year. NHL is about 2 to 3 times more common in boys than in girls, and it is more common in White children than Black children. Overall, the risk of NHL in children increases with age. It can develop in children at any age, but it's uncommon in children younger than 5.
About 10,470 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2022. Childhood cancer rates have been rising slightly for the past few decades. Because of major treatment advances in recent decades, 85% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more.
Kids with cancer need our support now more than ever. St. Baldrick’s is the largest non-government funder of childhood cancer research grants, and the pandemic has slashed donations, slowing down the progress to find cures.
Cancer kills more of our kids than any other disease. Research can change that, and I don’t want to let these kids down. Can you help? Thank you so much!
