As one of the three founders of St. Baldrick's, I originally issued the challenge to my friends John and Enda to give back to society by doing something for others. After witnessing countless people braving the clippers for the cause, and having been inspired by my sons, Timothy and Brian, I've decided it's time for me to shed my waning locks too! To commemorate the 10th year of the St. Baldrick's Foundation I will shave half my head on March 13th at Napper Tandy's and the other half on March 17th at Jim Brady's - the "birthplace of St. Baldrick's."
We have a lot of fun shaving heads but it's WHY we do it that's important.
Last year I became acquainted with a 19 year old young lady named Jennifer. Since the age of 14 she has been fighting a rare cancer called Lepto Meningeal Sarcoma. I'm privileged to shave in Jen's honor and the money that is donated on my head will help find life-saving treatments for young people like Jen.
In the United States, childhood cancer continues to kill more of our children then AIDS, asthma, diabetes, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and congenital anomalies combined. The average age of a child diagnosed with cancer is 7. Imagine spending your childhood in a hospital.
Your support will not only help save lives - it will help improve the quality of life - both short and long-term for patients and survivors. Please give from your heart and join me as I shave the way to conquer kids' cancer.
Thanks for being a hero for kids with cancer!
