This will mark my 17th year of shaving my head for this amazing organization. In 2016 I was awarded the title of Knight Commander for my many years of service to this organization. As I continue this year as a "Crusader for a Cure", I have once again been asked to take on the prestigious roll of Volunteer Event Coordinator! Not only am I shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research, I'm going to take a shot at running the whole event!

I have personally witnessed the toll cancer takes on a family. As you may remember from years past, my nephew was cured of his leukemia by a great team of providers and the love of his family. Cancer had affected my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. Two years ago, cancer took one of my dear adult friends and I have been heartbroken since.

This year I will sponsor yet another child suffering from cancer. One of my "other sons" took his sick 2-year old son to the ER last June and had the alarming discovery of a leukemia diagnosis. He has Acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He is just 2-years old and having to endure what most of us would dread in adulthood. Treatment is often experimental in this age group. After 6-months of grueling treatment, it looks like he is in remission! 

Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
