It is that time of year again- spring for my family means fundraising to help fund research for childhood cancers. As many of you may know, I have had three little friends receive life changing diagnoses. Ally (a daughter of my parents' coworker) was under one year when she was diagnosed with HLH, a rare blood disorder treated like many childhood cancers- her only hope of surviving was a bone marrow transplant. She had her transplant and endured just about every complication possible. She is now thriving in 1st grade. Scarlett (a friend of our from daycare, now 6) was just 2 years old when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. She successfully completed chemotherapy treatments and was able to avoid a bone marrow transplant. This year she is donating her long braid for cancer research. Then there is little Jaxsen. He was 11 months old when he had his head shaved at St. Baldrick's in honor of Scarlett. Then 2 years later he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He remains in treatment and continues to receive chemotherapy weekly. He turned 5 this past week and remains his usual spunky self.
Luckily no one else we know has been diagnosed, but not everyone is that lucky. A child is diagnosed with cancer every 3 minutes.
Please help us in our hopes to not only cure these childhood cancers but to make the treatments more bearable for these young children. Remember that it's the research done today that will save children (possibly your children or grandchildren) in the future.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
