Why am I shaving my head you might ask? The answer is simple: To stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, who typically lose their hair during treatment. More importantly, I'm doing it to raise funds for childhood cancer research!
Throughout my undergraduate career, I volunteered on a pediatric wing for four years. Of those four years I volunteered in a pediatric oncology clinic for two. I have developed great relationships with both the medical staff as well as the children and their families. Every Tuesday morning was a different experience, and seemed to put a smile on my face. Being a first year medical student, I hope to someday be able to specialize in pediatrics and help these amazing children with such high spirits and bright futures! In the meantime, the least I can do is donate my hair, and I need YOUR help!
Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. The St. Baldrick's Foundation partners with organizations around the world to fund childhood cancer research. We must all do everything we can to give kids a better chance for a cure.
