I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

The St. Baldrick's Foundation and Hair We Share, thank you all for all that you do!

I decided I wanted to raise money for a good cause and I was excited to shave my head. It's something I've always wanted to do. Little did I know it would change my life.

I could not imagine losing my hair traumatically due to a medical illness. It was my belief that there is plenty of hair in the world and that nobody should have to pay for a wig due to a medical illness.

I did not know any children with cancer and I was grateful for that. I could not imagine that nor do I want to. Being involved in the youth in my community and being friends with young people; if one had cancer, that would be very difficult. Children are vibrant and bright and it makes me very sad to see them so ill.

I had lost loved ones from cancer and my loved ones have experienced great loss over cancer. Lots of fighting, tests, constant worry, financial issues, fear, pain and despair. The list goes on. All of the fighters, my heart goes out to you for your tremendous strength.

I felt a sense of purpose and fulfillment removing my hair. It was a very personal and deep experience for me. Removing my hair was like leaving my troubled past behind, becoming my true and current self, being reborn...

I hope to reach my fundraising goal of $5,000 before the end of the year. This is my greatest year yet as far as donations, community work, volunteering, and club/fraternal/nonprofit organization involvement. By the way, this all started with a new years resolution that I started in December before the new year even started.

Thank you all so much for your constant support and encouragement! I would not be able to do everything that I am doing without you, without people.
