I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: MAY-Team

I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: MAY-Team

My hair is getting SHAGGY and I'm supposed to be "professional," but I'm WAITING another month (until 3/10) to get it cut. WHY?!? My oldest child will go to college later this year, my middle is trying to make the baseball team this Spring, and my youngest is working hard to get good grades. I'm sure there are comparable things that you WORRY about too when it comes to your kids or for you personally. While important to us, these are TRIVIAL to what some parents are forced to deal with every day: A CHILD WITH CANCER. These people live with going to serious treatments, hoping for remission, and waiting for a cure. While I sincerely hope that nobody reading this is dealing with cancer or ANY ailment facing their child, I know some of my friends are or have in the past. Although seemingly blessed with good hair (yeah, what an unimportant-thing-in-the-grand-scheme-of-life to consider being lucky to have), it's ALL getting SHAVED off soon both to show solidarity for kids fighting cancer and to raise money to find cures. This is my 6th year doing this. Some of you are new to receiving this message from me, but many have supported this effort in the past. It's easy to think "whatever, Bill's shaving his head again." And I agree, it's not unique anymore. It's also not new for those kids dealing with cancer year-after-year, but it is a very new and scary thing for those that have be diagnosed in the past year. They need help and I'm convinced every single person, year-after-year, can make a difference. Please consider supporting me in this effort by clicking the "Make a donation" link on this page. (You can also donate by mail.) I'd love for you to sponsor me in this great cause (yes, I certainly know there are a lot of important causes out there), but I also encourage you to read a bit about the kids living with cancer and their courage fighting it and zest for life. I promise you'll be moved. I'll sponsor several kids as the next few weeks progress, but as I write this I always begin by sponsoring one child: my sister Karen. She was my parents' first child and died before I was even born. But her memory and the unimaginable grief her passing must have caused my parents to endure remind me that I would love for that to NEVER happen to another parent. Thanks for taking a bit of time out of your day to read this and for any support you can give – it's all good! I hope you and yours experience awesome things in 2012! -Bill P.S. For those of you that live near me in North Carolina, consider coming to the event. Who knows, you may be motivated to get a shave as well! ;^)
