Why am I shaving my head, and why should you care?
This September, I’ll be participating in a St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event to raise funds for childhood cancer research. It’s a cause that touches close to home. My participation supports my friends, Rick and Amy Bucher, whose family leads a campaign in memory of their beautiful daughter, Arden Quinn, who lost her life to cancer. I’m also thinking of another friend whose grandchild is currently facing her own battle with Leukemia. And of course, I’m inspired daily by my husband, a radiologist who spent his career helping women navigate breast cancer diagnoses with compassion and care.
I’ve always been about giving back—and as someone lucky enough to have a platform in our community, I want to use that voice for something bigger than myself. I may be the one in the chair, but this moment is not about me. It’s about the children who don’t get a choice when cancer takes their hair, their energy, their childhood. It’s about showing up for them, and for the families who carry this weight every single day.
You should care because childhood cancer research is deeply underfunded—and because 1 in 5 children diagnosed in the U.S. won’t survive. Those who survive often face lasting health challenges for the rest of their lives. We can change that. Every dollar you give helps fund the most promising research to give these kids the chance at a healthy future.
So yes, I’m shaving my head. I’m proud to do it! And I’d be honored to have your support in this fight.
Thank you—for caring, for giving, and for helping to make a difference.
