I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research

Hi, my name is Adam. Exactly 2 years ago both of my grandmothers found out they had cancer. When my parents explained that they would lose their hair from the cancer treatments, I was very shocked. My brother and I decided to grow our hair and donate it to our Grandmothers so they wouldn’t have to go without hair. We had no idea that it took over 6 pony tails of hair to make one wig. We knew we couldn’t grow enough hair or grow hair fast enough to help them.

Sadly my Nana passed away very quickly from her cancer. I didn’t have a chance to donate my hair to her. My other grandmother had surgery and thankfully she got better from her cancer without losing her hair.

I then decided my hair growing should not have been for nothing. I wanted to help children or teens who would be extra self-conscious if they lost their hair. I also wanted to help raise money needed for research to help cure cancer in the young and in all ages.

It has not been easy growing my hair. As an 11 year old boy, I found it hard to keep my hair neat and tidy. I don’t know how girls do it. I am very happy that I grew my hair with my younger brother Jayden. We were able to deal with “looking like a girl” together. At almost every restaurant we have been told “I think you are in the wrong bathroom sweetie!” I have been mistaken for a girl more times than I can count. Even through all the mistaken identity it was well worth it to feel like I am helping someone else. I am glad I can now donate over 14 inches of hair to the Wigs for Kids Program.

I hope you will help me raise money and support my hair cutting experience by donating to Childhood Cancer Canada through the St. Baldricks foundation. Make me look like a boy again! I will post a photo after my hair cut. So you can see the difference your money will make!

Thanks in advance.

Adam.
