In Memory of Vincent Murtha

Vincent K. Murtha, 77 of Brewster, N.Y., died on April 30, 2017. He leaves a wife of 26 years, Diane; a sister, Marion; four children, Lucienne, Noel, Danielle and Matthew, two step-children, Richard and Jeannine; grandchildren Mateo, Evan, Nathan and Marcus; and many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his first wife, Marianne, his son Kevin, his siblings Anna Mae, Joan, Philip, John, and his grandson Mason.

Born March 24, 1940 in Rockaway, N.Y., Vincent was a lifelong resident of New York State. In his youth, he worked as a lifeguard on Rockaway Beach and served in the United States Army.

He received his Master’s Degree in Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University and a second Master’s Degree from Mercy College in school administration.

Vincent spent many years working for the Fire Department of the City of New York in administration, and most recently worked as a school psychologist in the New York City and Yonkers, N.Y., school systems, helping at-risk children. He held several permanent NYS Department of Education Certifications.

His career also included several entrepreneurial and business ventures.

He took incredible pride in his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, never missing a birthday or family event and always being counted on to show up with a cake or favorite pastry to celebrate a special occasion. In spite of what life threw at him, Vincent always looked on the bright side. He will be deeply missed.

Viewing is planned for Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Beechers Funeral Home in Brewster, N.Y. 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral mass is planned for Friday, May 5, 2017 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster, NY with internment to follow.
