Sammi was an active happy child until March 27, 2003 when she was diagnosed with meningitis. This was due to a pituitary tumor in her brain that had burst. She then got hydrocephalus and had to have a shunt surgically implanted to help the fluid from her brain and spine from building up. She since has had 45 surgeries, including a craniotomy to remove the tumor. She has almost complete hormone deficiencies and takes many medications a day, including 2 shots a day. Through all of this Sam has suffered from chronic headaches, fatigue, nausea and heart problems.
She is an accomplished author, poetess, sister, daughter and friend. She has committed her life to her BT friends and hopes one day to be a child life specialist. She loves to read, write, and is involved with the Magical Moon Foundation as Sir Sammi, the Thriving Survivor, the University of Michigan softball team through Friends of Jaclyn and a great supporter of Camp Sunshine, in Casco Maine!
