My Story
Elysia was diagnosed with Ewings sarcoma early in 2018, a few months before her seventh birthday. On February 2nd, after her first round of chemo, she shaved her mom’s, dad’s, and several other family members’ heads. Throughout a year of very aggressive treatment, she never stopped smiling, laughing, and playing. Her doctors and nurses were always glad to see her, even knowing she probably planned to terrorize them with the remote control spider that hid so well under her bed. She never failed to inspire and amaze everyone around her with her indomitable spirit and crafting ingenuity: painting windows, designing t-shirts, and creating entire costumes from construction paper and staples. Her joyful demeanor was always on display, whether she was starting inflated glove pillow fights or riding her IV pole through the halls like a scooter. Her positivity, along with fast action and excellent treatment from her pediatrician and the oncology team at children’s hospital Colorado, allowed her to conquer her treatment with a smile. We call Elysia our warrior girl, and she truly exemplifies the warrior spirit.
