My Story
Blake Michel was a normal 6-year-old, first grader who loves baseball and playing with his sister Ryleigh. He was a completely healthy kid until he failed 2 routine hearing tests at his school. After he failed, we were told to follow up with our primary care doctor where we learned "Blake had a severe ear infection in his right ear" and he was prescribed antibiotics. Three days after taking the antibiotics Blake woke up and had no function in the right side of his face. Think stroke like symptoms. He had crooked smile and couldn't close his right eye at all, even when blinking. We took him to Akron Children's ER where they ran all kinds of tests, including a CT scan. When we got those results our world was rocked. They found a tumor. We were admitted immediately and on November, 29th 2021 our worst fears came true. Blake was diagnosed with Cancer. Stage 3, intermediate, Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Since then Blake underwent 16 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of proton radiation.
We are so happy and proud to say that on March 24th, 2023 Blake was given the report of being Cancer free, No evidence of disease!
