In August 10th 2020 Johnny Lewis was the most happy, healthy little boy celebrating his 2nd birthday with his 4 big brothers. Just 10 days later, Johnnys world changed forever when he was diagnosed with leukemia. A once active little boy, he became unable to walk or talk from the pain the leukemia was causing him, the side effects of the medications, and the trauma he was enduring. Johnny has currently completed 8 months out of his treatment regimen which is over 2 years. He has had countless blood draws, covid tests, chemotherapy, blood transfusions, lumbar punctures and trips to the ER in between. He lost all of his sandy blonde curls. He has gained weight rapidly from the steroids he must take, and then lost it and then some from the chemo that makes him vomit and lose his appetite. Despite all of this, Johnny has remained so strong, and has taken on cancer with grit and grace. As of now, he has a wonderful prognosis and Johnny will ring the bell in October of 2022, over 2 years from his diagnosis. As scary as Johnny’s story is, unfortunately it’s not as rare as we wish it was. 43 children a day are diagnosed with cancer in the United States alone. Only a portion of those children will survive. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. Thank you for honoring Johnny’s brave battle!
