It started off with him continuously losing weight, having difficulty eating and not gaining weight like children his age. He was in the 0.5% for weight for his age and he lost about 11 ounces in one week which really scared us. We took him in to the rapid express clinic where we were told that he had “another GI virus” after just getting over Influenza-A. I thought I felt his liver below his rib cage so we took him to his pediatrician 5 days later. He was the one who agreed that he had some potential enlargement of his liver and it warranted an abdominal ultrasound. That same afternoon on March 4th, 2020 he was found to have a large tumor that was the size of a squash. He subsequently needed emergency surgery for removal of the tumor which required removal of his right kidney as well and then had 26 weeks of chemotherapy. No parent should ever have to hear those dreadful words that their child has cancer and that is why supporting cancer research to eliminate childhood cancers is so imperative. Thank you for supporting Tommy and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
