My Story

Sam was 8 years old when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma at the end of May 2019. The news came as a terrible surprise as his dad, Patrick, had been fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia for the last 5 years going from remission to relapse to bone marrow transplant. At time of Sam’s diagnosis, Patrick was doing much better to the point of even coaching Sam and his brother’s travel baseball and hockey teams. All three of them are huge sports fans. Unfortunately, at the end of June Patrick was admitted to the hospital with an acute infection leading him to eventually lose all his vital functions and he passed on August 3rd. Samuel had to undergo surgery and chemo treatments while his dad was hospitalized in the ICU. Sam was an example of courage, determination, and strength while going through so many challenges that an 8 year old boy should never be exposed to. In October, Sam was definitively done with chemo and in remission. Regular blood works and CT scans are part of the next 3 years, but Sam’s spirit is strong and inspirational.
