Riley was diagnosed with WAGR at 6 months old. We knew at this time she'd have a 50% chance of developing Wilm's Tumor (Kidney Cancer). We knew she'd have eyesight issues, risk of kidney failure, cognitive delays and many other medical issues.
We've worked hard with our birth to 3 program and doctors to get Riley to meet her milestones. In doing so, she's made lots of friends, brought many smiles and given lots of cuddles.
Recently Riley had a general checkup ultrasound exam where we discovered a 2.3cm mass in her right kidney. Within the next couple days we got her in for a CT scan to get a better look at what the mass was, even though we knew in the back of our minds exactly what it was. We spoke with the oncologist about the results of the scan, it turns out Riley had not one, but two tumors in her right kidney. One 3cm and the other 1.8cm. We had surgery on October 10th to remove the tumors/ kidney. Riley has 4 more treatments and will be getting her 10th chemo treatment this week. However, Riley still has the same chance of getting these tumors in her left kidney.
