This is Mikey Conger in October of 2004 at age 5 wearing his
favorite colors, LSU purple and gold. One of Mikey's first
loves is following the Tigers, and at age 5, as you can see, he was
already determined to stick it right on the numbers of those LSU
receivers! Less than a year later, in July of 2005, Mikey was
diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and since
that time that same determination you see here has served him well
as he continues to make progress in his recovery. Mikey has
recently returned home (late January) to the Baton Rouge, LA area
after doctors at St. Jude's in Memphis gave the discharge approval
his mother had been praying for.
Mikey has another favorite pastime and, although he still has alot
ahead of him, evidence of his recovery progress is given by his
return to cartoon drawing. He has always loved "doodling", as his
mother calls it, but since December of this past year his hands
would not cooperate...that is until this past week! Today a full
page, story telling, cartoon is under a magnet on the Conger
household refrigerator.
Please read more about "Mikey", whom I am pleased to honor at
this year's St. Baldrick's "Shave the Way to Conquer Kid's Cancer"
event sponsored by J.T. McQ's, by visiting his website.
