Full of life, love and light, Ava is just like any other kid – wanting to run around the park, paint and draw, play with her toys, and spend time with her family and friends. About a week after her 7th birthday in 2017, Ava was diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of osteosarcoma to her right femur, also known as bone cancer. Not only did she have to go through chemotherapy treatment, she was also prepping for a life-changing surgery – the removal of her right femur bone, which was replaced with a magnetic rod that would grow as she grows. She ended chemotherapy treatment in April 2018, and she continues to attend physical therapy twice a week to work on strengthening her leg and adding flexion to her knee. She enjoys playing with her 3-year-old brother, Andrew. She is grateful to be off treatment and out of the hospital, and looks forward to accomplishing her list of things to do post-treatment, such as swimming, dancing and traveling around the world.
