Linton James (LJ) was 8 years old and in 2nd grade when he was diagnosed with a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in his abdomen. He was diagnosed in April 2018 and passed away in October, just 6 months later. We knew from the beginning that his prognosis was terminal, but were encouraged by his doctors to try chemotherapy to see if it would decrease tumor growth and give us more time to spend with our baby boy. Unfortunately, after 2 rounds of chemo, his tumor had only grown bigger. We made the decision to stop treatment so that LJ could live his last months laughing and playing with his friends and family. In September 2018, his health rapidly started to decline, and he entered hospice care where he spent his final weeks surrounded by his family and all of his beloved stuffed animals. LJ took his final breath on October 17, 2018. We wanted to donate his organs to other people in need, but due to the medicine he was on, the only thing we could donate were his corneas. Our hope is that someday, someone finds a cure for this monstrous disease. Children should spend their time being carefree and playing with their friends, and parents shouldn’t have to bury their babies. LJ is survived by his mom and dad, step-dad, a younger brother, a step brother, and a baby sister who was born 2 months after his death. She shares his middle name and brought such joy and happiness to the darkest days of our lives.
