In the summer of 2018, just shy of his 4th birthday, Christian was diagnosed with high risk, T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Shortly after being evaluated for flu-like symptoms, we were called back into the clinic where he was immediately admitted to the pediatric ICU. There started his 3½ year journey of treatment consisting of radiation, various cocktails of chemotherapy, lumbar punctures with more chemotherapy, countless hospital admissions with fevers and seizures causes by severely low blood sugars.
Throughout these 3½ years, Christian has not only shown us his bravery and resiliency when dealing with so many hospital visits, pokes or the sheer number of pills, but – most of all – has managed to keep is childlike wonder and will to just be a kid. He loves hanging out with his brothers, playing soccer, biking, or building Lego’s or Playmobil. He can’t wait to grow up and become a firefighter.
Over this time, Christian and our families have started to try and give back to the wonderful organizations and charities that have supported us these past years by volunteering, public speaking or fundraising.
Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
