My Story

My name is Liberty, and this is my story. When I was six I was diagnosed with a DIPG brain tumor. We found out when my eye doctor wanted a MRI because my left eye was turned inward. He wanted to see if anything was in my brain or something that was blocking my eye to make it turned inward. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news. Mom and dad were devastated when we found out that I had a brain tumor. Not only was it a tumor but it was cancerous. My mom had to quit her job to be with me. DIPG is a rare brain tumor for kids like me. There is no cure. There are only clinical trials because it is so rare. We make trips back and forth to Atlanta and Columbia for treatment. I tried one trial, it kept my tumor stable for a little while, but it stopped working. We are going to try a new trial. We are hopeful that this trial will be successful. Under the circumstances I am a very energetic happy girl, most days. Other days I feel down and just want to lay down. I have a great community behind me, together we will beat this. I am Liberty strong!Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
