Hailey was a regular happy and healthy little girl who has just celebrated her 5th birthday when a minor illness and routine bloodwork led to a stunning diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. She had four rounds of intense chemotherapy and thanks to the advances in treatment and a team of great doctors and nurses at Cohen a children’s medical center and the prayers of many many people, Hailey went into complete MRD negative remission after the first round of chemotherapy and has been cancer free for almost two years now. Still, the road was far from easy. We had 113 overnight stays in the hospital in a span of 8 months. She had a central line which required daily trips to the hospital even when she wasn’t inpatient and wasn’t getting chemotherapy. We still have monthly appointments, are followed by multiple specialists and watching closely to make sure that she remains happy and healthy and does not have any complications or side effects from her treatment. Hailey has been through more than any child should have to, and it hurts our hearts to know there are so many others, including the wonderful people and children we met during our lengthy hospital stays. Thank you for supporting Hailey and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance at living a long and healthy life.
