My Story
Nolan was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma shortly after his 10th birthday on Dec 15, 2006. Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma. Nolan's tumor was in his sinuses, stretching from his skull bone to his molars. He spent the next 11 months in treatment. He received 42 weeks of chemotherapy and lived in Boston for six weeks to get daily proton radiation treatments. Along the way, there were many extra hospital stays for fevers as well as countless transfusions and scans. He is currently considered NED (No Evidence of Disease) and enjoying life as a 'regular' kid.
Nolan is a great kid who loves music, video games, football and hanging out with his friends. This spring, he is graduating from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. In the summer, he plays soccer and this fall, he will be able to join a football team. Nolan is in fifth grade and doing great, although reading and writing are not his favorite things to do. Throughout all of his treatment, he has been so brave and never asked 'why me?'. He tackled the monster head on and kicked cancer's butt!
We are so proud of Nolan and his courageous spirit! And we are so thankful for Nolan's good health.
Nolan has two sisters: Lauren and Steffi. This year, Steffi is going to shave her head in support of her little brother. Go Steffi!
