Mackenzie was diagnosed with metastatic large cell/anaplastic Group 3 Medulloblastoma with MYC-C amplification in May of 2018. Doctors discovered she had 4 tumors in her brain, in addition to two separate tumor areas in her spine. She endured an 8 hour long surgery that was able to remove almost all of the primary tumor site, with a small amount left on the brain stem. Since surgery she suffered from PFS, requiring her to learn to walk all over again, switch from right dominate to left dominate, and attend weekly PT and OT sessions to assist with gross and fine motor skills. She received 31 sessions of radiation to her brain and spine and seven months of maintenance chemo.
On April 9, 2021, Mackenzie passed away surrounded by her loving family.
